Reminder: Fashion isn't about price, it's about UNDERSTANDING.

The more I look around me, and the more I realize I'm surrounded by people who think that because they have the right label, they have the right look. This is a very common mistake, that leads to shocking fashion disasters, and big waist of money!!!

So please, let's remind that taste is key. You can make a very stylish statement without ruining yourself. Of course you cannot compare a Lanvin dress to an Old Navy one, that's not even questionnable. What I mean is that the minimum is to understand the idea behind a garment made by a designer. For instance, if a skirt looks radius down the runway, it's 50% of the garment, and 50% of the understanding and of the styling.

Here are some example of high priced disasters, and "affordable exquisit look":

Even a 2500$ Hermes bag couldn't do anything for her...

Chanel shirt 350$
Hermes handbag 2500$
Alexander wang skirt 250$
Total: 3100$

Just a question of styling... Voila:

Forever 21 cardigan 120$
T by Alexander Wang tank 50$
Target sandals 50$
BDG for Urban Outfitters jeans 80$
 Total: 300$

Shoulder Pad Power are back, and here to stay!!!

As you may have noticed, since the Balmain Spring 2008 collection, the shoulder pad are back, under the name of Soulder Power!! And I LOVE it!
What could have been just a one season trend, seems to be here to stay, since Balmain "did it again" in his last 2010 spring collection. But this season he's not the only one to have adopted the Shoulder Power. Celine, D.A. Vandestrof, Comme des Garçons, Alice + Olivia and more have digg out the shoulder pad too!!!
Usually, we recognize a trend when it goes from the runway to Zara's and H&M's commercials stores. Well guess what? This is exactly what's happenning, so keep an eye open!!

Let's get it started!

After a week-end spent to Puerto Vallarta, I feel more than ready to get this collection started! During this trip I managed to quit the very touristic side of the city, to find an interesting painting gallery. I had the chance to meet the artist, José Marca, whose painting are characterized by a mélange of portrait and surrealism. In Puerto Vallarta, his representation of Frida are very famous.

From this trip I came back with a "pannel of couleurs", which was a very difficult choice to make, because I want this collection to be cohesive, and because my favorite color is... black! This collection will mostly be prepared in Paris, in December, so I had to forget all the folklore around me. For a first collection, my environment will be primordial.

I want every piece to be tainted with lunatism, a very small note of romance (very very small!) and the sensation I feel after a "ballade au bord de la Seine". All this gives me a "folle envie" to take a look at the 50's!

Atoine et Lili: Le savoir faire parisien.

Here is a video of one of my favorite boutique in Paris: Antoine et Lili. This boutique has a vintage inspired style, even though it is not. Actually, I still have some very cute dresses my mom bought me there when I was little! At the time there was only a very few boutiques. One is two blocks away from where I live in Montmartre, and I'm glad to see how they keep on growing!
If you ever go to Paris you have to visit this boutique! I would say that their specialties are furniture, accessorizes, and children's clothing. I'm not a big fan of their women's clothing, just because it's not my syle. Note that the Montmartre boutique is the biggest, and the only one to sale furniture I think.
Voila, voila.

Sass and Bide: Spring 2010 made in Australia

I wanted to comment on Alexander Mcqueen latest collection, and get inspiration from it (only in terms of understanding how this genuis man always manage to have this "file conducteur" in every of his collection), but I fell in love with Sass and Bide Spring 2010 collection!

This collection is a bit more classy than the other. Personally I think that I prefer Sass & Bide when they give "libre court" to their imagination, although the details in this collection are incredible.
The "Rainbows for Kate" collection was just unique: simple but tragique at the same time. Here it is! That's exactly how I want my collection to be described!

More coming up...I promise

Very, Very busy!
I'm trying to get inspiration to the Santa Lucia river... Will it work? I need to Focus, Focus Focus!
First of all my collection is going to be very sunny, and... That's about it, at least for now.

Next: Alexander Mcqueen fiche, cause I really need more inspiration.

Alexander Wang: Eclectic and fantastic.

My contemparory iconic designer is without a doubt Alexander Wang, just because this man is capable of everything, from the chicest, to the most disturbingly artistic collection. He's not afraid to break the rules and take chances.I admire its work, and this approach of fashion. Eclectic and fantastic
Alexander Wang reminds us that FASHION IS an ART before anything else, and this even in period of crisis.

Biography:
Alexander Wang was born in San Francisco. He moved to New York City at 18, attended Parsons The New School for Design and interned at Teen Vogue before launching a line of cashmere sweaters his sophomore year. He launched his first full collection of womens wear in 2007.

Tout commence ici... Me, Myself and...

It's been almost 2 years that I'm trying to finish my "clothing line", but with school and everything it looks like I'm really not ready to finish...
So as a very new and young designer I've decided to dedicate this blog to my learning and growing process in this industry. My main goal is to share my vision of fashion and arts. I live in the "capitale de la mode": Paris, one of the richest city of the world in terms of culture. At 21, I still have a lot to learn and no time to waist!!! I'm just trying to follow the white rabbit as fast as I can...
Hopefully one day you will all understand...

"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening" -C0c0 Chanel-

Me, Myself and...
Before I present my work, I want to explain where my inspiration comes from, in order to define my style, my point of view. For the next few days I'm going to write about the designers, and other artists that definitely influenced my work, either by their originality, or the impact they had on the fashion industry.
This writing experience is going to help me define better what my approach is going to be for my collection, and how I want to characterize myself in fashion. Currently I'm in a student exchange program in Mexico. Will it be a source of inspiration?
Hey! I told you this blog thing is all about growing as a designer for me. In other words, this is only the beginning of the beginning!
